Founder - Steven Chu, Architect ARBV
Founded by Burmese-Australian architect Steven Chu, Artefact is an architecture and design practice working across architecture, interiors, public realm and strategic advisory. Our work spans hospitality, community infrastructure and cultural projects, workplaces, and private homes.

Steven founded Artefact with experience spanning design leadership, public service, education and humanitarian work. He has led and contributed to more than $3 billion in built projects, and has been involved in more than 20 community projects recognised with more than 21 design awards.
His leadership experience includes serving as a Director at a national billion-dollar facilities management firm, Director of Design and Board Member at an Australian humanitarian organisation, and Principal Architect at a local government council in Victoria.
Steven founded Artefact in 2014 and has continued to lead the practice alongside teaching Master of Architecture Design Studios at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) since 2018.
His work is grounded in a belief that the spaces we create shape the lives within and around them, and that architecture can create greater agency, equity and belonging.
